Day #14: Recap, Predictions and Overview

Recap: Wow! The most surprising result coming out of yesterday was Meridell drawing against Roo Island in yooyuball. What does this mean for Meridell? Are they going to be a force to be reckoned with this year? Will they be able to maintain their top 4 position through the rest of the regular season? Some Roo Islanders appear to be be blaming this loss in part to the fact that they were just coming off a tough match against Krawk Island. However, Meridell was also just coming off a tough match against Lost Desert (where they also garnered a draw in YYB). For those counting at home here’s Meridell’s track record against top teams thus far (in Yooyuball). Note, the number next to the team they beat represents their opponent’s current ranking.
Wins:
No wins against a top 8 (or even a top 10) team

Draws:
Against Kreludor (6th)
Against Darigan (8th)
Against Lost Desert (3rd)
Against Roo Island (2nd)

Losses:
Loss against Haunted Woods (5th)

So their record against top 8 teams so far is 0-1-4 (W-L-D). Just to confuse things more, Meridell only got a draw when they played against Maraqua, who is ranked 10th, and they lost to Shenkuu who is currently ranked 9th. It’s strange that they’re able to draw against they great teams, but they’re unable to beat a team like Darigan, Maraqua, or Shenkuu. They are certainly this year’s conundrum. Perhaps things will become clearer as they play Mystery Island and Krawk Island over the next two days.

Another very note worthy result coming through today is Kreludor’s triumphant win against Lost Desert. This was the first loss Lost Desert recieved (they had five previous draws however). Kreludor is now fighting with Meridell for this year’s “Underdog Story” spot. We might as well recap their performance against top teams as well (YYB records):
Wins:
Against Lost Desert (3rd)
Against Haunted Woods (5th)

Draws:
Against Meridell (4th)
Against Darigan (8th)
Against Mystery Island (6th)

Losses:
Krawk Island (1st)
Roo Island (2nd)

Making Kreludor’s record in Yooyuball against top 8 teams 2-2-3 (W-L-D). Will Kreludor perhaps be taking over Meridells #4 position in the next 2 days? It’s very likely since Meridell will be pitted against two tough opponents and Kreludor will have two relatively easy opponents. For those wondering, Kreludor currently has 12.33 points, and Meridell has 12.58 points (with Haunted Woods with 12.50 points). So clearly those 3 teams could be swapping positions at any point.

And a brief shout out should be given to Tyrannia who got a draw in Slushie Slinger and a win in Make Some Noise against Mystery Island. My theory is that Mystery Island tried to focus a lot of their efforts on defeating Tyrannia in Slushie Slinger that they completely ignored Make Some Noise and allowed Tyrannia to get a win in MSN.

And finally, you may have noticed Darigan’s mere draw in Slushie Slinger against a weak Altador team. This really shouldn’t have been that big of a surprise. Slushie Slinger is a severe weak spot for Darigan. In fact, just a few days ago Virtupets was able to draw against Darigan in Slushie Slinger. So far Darigan has only won 3 games of Slushie Slinger.

Standings:
After yesterday’s hullabaloo, here are the current standings:
1. Krawk Island
2. Roo Island
3. Lost Desert
4. Meridell
5. Haunted Woods
6. Kreludor
7. Mystery Island
8. Darigan
9. Shenkuu
10. Maraqua
11. Tyrannia
12. Virtupets
13. Terror Mountain
14. Altador
15. Brightvale
16. Faerieland

Predictions:
The following is my personal predictions for today’s match-ups.
Mystery Island over Maraqua
Kreludor over Tyrannia
Haunted Woods over Altador
Krawk Island over Meridell
Shenkuu over Faerieland
Roo Island over Brightvale
Lost Desert over Darigan
Terror Mountain over Virtupets

Overview:
There will be two big match-ups to look forward to today. Firstly, Krawk Island will be facing off a “hot” Meridell team. Meridell has been facing a sleuth of great teams recently, but they’ve been holding their own so far. It would be unwise for Krawk Island to underestimate them. They could very easily pull another upset and get a draw against Krawk Island. But how long can Meridell keep up their streak? Are they going to be fatigued from playing all these tough teams in a row? After all, they also have a big game tomorrow against Mystery Island.
Lost Desert v. Darigan is also something to look out for, although I doubt Darigan will be able to do much here. Possibly a draw. After all, Lost Desert is just coming off a tough game with Kreludor, whereas Darigan had a easy day against Altador yesterday. We’ll have to see how this one develops.
Some people will also have their eye on Mystery Island v. Maraqua. While I don’t think Maraqua will be able to do much here, we all know that this Altador Cup has been full of surprises.

Day #13: Recap, Predictions, and Overview

Recap: Roo Island pulled off a massive win against Krawk Island. Could this be a prelude to what may happen in the finals? Clearly both teams had worked at full capacity, but Roo Island was able to get the win in yooyuball. While Krawk Island continues to lead the standings, some have to question if they are really the best team. After all, you can be ranked #1 going in to the finals, but you can’t win unless you beat the best of the best. Lost Desert also was only able to get a draw against Meridell. Were they perhaps tired from their constant playing yesterday against Krawk Island? Meridell continues being a top 4 team despite many people doubting that they are a top tier team. Another developing story is Kreludor. Will Kreludor be the new Shenkuu? Hardly anybody talked about Kreludor’s chances of being a top 4 team pre-season, but now they’re in the #5 position, and they pulled off a nice win against Haunted Woods two days ago. Also, will Faerieland go all season without a single win (or even draw) in any game?

Rankings:
Speaking of rankings, here is the updated version of rankings after today’s results:
1. Krawk Island
2. Roo Island
3. Lost Desert
4. Meridell
5. Kreludor
6. Mystery Island
7. Haunted Woods
8. Darigan
9. Shenkuu
10. Tyrannia
11. Maraqua
12. Virtupets
13. Terror Mountain
14. Brightvale
15. Altador
16. Faerieland

Predictions:
Krawk Island over Terror Mountain
Mystery Island over Tyrannia
Maraqua over Faerieland
Darigan over Altador
Lost Desert over Kreludor
Haunted Woods over Virtupets
Roo Island over Meridell
Shenkuu over Brightvale

Overview:
The only real game to watch today is Kreludor v. Lost Desert. Kreludor has been on the rise, but Lost Desert is coming off a hard draw to Meridell. Will this draw propel them to play harder today? We can go back and compare previous opponents of the two teams, but it seams Kreludor has been improving as the tournament has progressed. This reminds me a lot of what Shenkuu did in their first year. To start Shenkuu was only mediocre, but by the second round robin they could take on anybody. Will Kreludor pull a Shenkuu this year?

Other than that, not too many games to look out for. As always look for Tyrannia to win in Slushie Slinger. You almost have to wonder if other teams will catch on to Tyrannia’s Slushie Slinger skills and actually play more Slushie Slinger when they play against Tyrannia. Also, will Tyrannia be an easy team to defeat in their finals bracket? After all, if they’re getting most of their points through their Slushie Slinger playing that’s not going to help them much in the finals when you’re only playing Yooyuball. As always, I appreciate those who proofread my daily updates.

Day #12: Cancelled

Due to real life circumstances I will be unable to do my Day 12 Recaps, predctions and overview. Don’t worry, I’ll be back in full swing tomorrow for Day #13. I’ll leave you guys to discuss amongst yourselves what happened yesterday. Add to the discussion by leaving a comment.

Thanks for your understanding!

You Will Play In A Different Order During Round #2

We will get to the Day #12 analysis later, but I would like to point out to everybody that you will play against teams in a different order for the second round robin than you played in the first round robin. For example, if you played Altador for your first game, you may not play them first in the second round robin. This will most likely be a relief to teams like Shenkuu who had a stacked schedule with a bunch of tough teams in a row. This is different than what TNT did the previous year where you simply repeated the schedule. Note, you can see the upcoming schedule by clicking here.

Remember, you heard it here first… unless of course you didn’t.

Edit: But it’s not completely random. Whichever team will play the team they played on the 30th of June on the 3rd of July. Whichever team you played on the 20th of June you will now play on the 4th of July. Whichever team you played on June 17th you will play on July 5th.

Day #11: Recap, Predictions, and Overview

Recap: Not too much in the way of yooyuball upsets. Shenkuu further seems to be just a mid-level team. As predicted, they drawed against Kreludor. Shenkuu technically came out with a win overall, but a pretty ugly one at that. It’s pretty safe to assume that they’ll simply be fighting for a good position in the 5th-8th bracket this year, unless they can once again pull a spectacular comeback. From a standings point of view, both Darigan beating Maraqua and Haunted Woods beating Meridell were technically upsets, but if you read our analysis of the match-ups, you’d find that both Haunted Woods and Darigan were the presumed winners. Tyrannia once again pulled off a win in Slushie Slinger against a top team. After 10 games they have yet to lose to anybody in Slushie Slinger. Will their streak continue if they play a tough team such as Krawk Island? It also appears that Roo Island put on its ‘A’ game against Mystery Island yesterday, as Roo Island was able to easily defeat Mystery Island.

Standings:
After yesterday’s results came through, Kreludor gained the upper edge against Mystery Island. Mystery Island of course was swept, while Kreludor held their own against Shenkuu (despite not beating them). As a result, Kreludor will move up to 6th place and Mystery Island will move down to 7th. Could Kreludor be a spoiler this year? You’ll also notice Meridell is still in 4th place. However, it’s is now very close between Haunted Woods and Meridell. Meridell has a total of 9.68 points, and Haunted Woods has accumulated 9.55 points. Darigan and Maraqua also switched places after Darigan defeated Maraqua. Shenkuu was also moved up to 10th place, inching closer to the 5th-8th place bracket. I expect Shenkuu to continue to inch up for the next 6 days due to their forthcoming easy schedule. Here’s the updated standings:
1. Krawk Island
2. Roo Island
3. Lost Desert
4. Meridell
5. Haunted Woods
6. Kreludor
7. Mystery Island
8. Darigan
9. Maraqua
10. Shenkuu
11. Tyrannia
12. Virtupets
13. Terror Mountain
14. Altador
15. Brightvale
16. Faerieland

My Predictions:
Mystery Island over Terror Mountain
Shenkuu over Maraqua
Krawk Island over Lost Desert
Haunted Woods over Kreludor
Darigan over Virtupets
Altador over Brightvale
Meridell over Faerieland
Roo Island over Tyrannia
Current Record (Right-Wrong-Tied): 63-4-13

Overview:
Everybody today will clearly have all their eyes on the Lost Desert v. Krawk Island match-up. Lost Desert will be Krawk Island’s biggest challenge to date. Lost Desert pulled the big upset against Roo Island, will the be able to do it again? Krawk Island is at the advantage of knowing that Lost Desert is capable of pulling off a big upset. Something Roo Island players may have been a little shocked by. It should also be noted that Lost Desert and Krawk Island are the only teams that are undefeated in Yooyuball and Make Some Noise. Yep, Lost Desert is yet to lose in Yooyuball, despite 3 draws. They are also 10-0-0 in MSN, just like Krawk Island. Krawk Island has yet to receive a loss in any of the 3 games. Will Lost Desert be the one to finally put a stop to it? Or will it be Roo Island tomorrow who puts a stop to it? Or will no team be able to stand in Krawk Island’s way? So many questions will be cleared up in the next 2 days.
While everybody’s eyes will be on the KI v. LD match-up, it may be wise to a keep a look out for the results of the Kreludor v. Haunted Woods match-up. Kreludor has been sneaking up higher and higher in the rankings lately. Will they be able to continue? Will they prove that they may just be a contender for a position in the coveted top 4 bracket? Haunted Woods has performed historically better against Kreludor’s former opponents, but since when has this Altador Cup shied away from surprises and upsets?
And once again watch out for Tyrannia winning/drawing in Slushie Slinger against Roo Island again. Roo Island has 8 wins in Slushie Slinger, which is even more than Tyrannia’s 7 wins. It’s very possible that Roo Island puts the first loss on Tyrannia in Slushie Slinger. Then again, maybe not.

And a big thank-you to all my commenters who go through my posts and proof read them. Thanks as always 🙂

Day #10: Recap, Predictions, and Overview

Recap: Several big results were coming out yesterday. One being Krawk Island completely sweeping Haunted Woods, once again confirming that they are the team to beat. It will be interesting to see how they’ll match up against Lost Desert and Roo Island on the 27th and 28th. As I had predicted, Shenkuu was able to pull off a much needed win against Meridell. I think you can now make the case that Shenkuu is a mid-level team. Mystery Island decided to shake things up by drawing against Lost Desert, with each team getting a win in one of the mini-games. It seems that Lost Desert was simply at the top of their game when they played against Roo Island, but it still looks like they’ll be a strong contender at the end. Mystery Island has also been doing some impressive stuff however. Recently they beat Darigan, but they’ve also been proving that they’re at least as good as the top teams by getting a draw against Haunted Woods and now against Lost Desert. But then why did they only get a triple draw against Kreludor? It seems we’re left with more questions than answers after today. Speaking of Kreludor, Kreludor got a triple draw against Darigan Citadel. Hardly a surprise as Darigan is now simply a mid-level team.

Standings:
Roo Island took back their #2 slot, kicking LD back to 3rd. After the results today, here are the current standings:
1. Krawk Island
2. Roo Island
3. Lost Desert
4. Meridell
5. Haunted Woods
6. Mystery Island
7. Kreludor
8. Maraqua
9. Darigan
10. Tyrannia
11. Shenkuu
12. Virtupets
13. Terror Mountain
14. Altador
15. Brightvale
16. Faerieland

Preidctions:
Haunted Woods over Meridell
Terror Mountain over Altador
Roo Island over Mystery Island
Krawk Island over Faerieland
Shenkuu drawing against Kreludor
Darigan over Maraqua
Lost Desert over Tyrannia
Virtupets over Brightvale
Current Record (Right-Wrong-Tied): 56-4-12

Overview:
Roo Island is of course expected to win against Mystery Island today. However, if we learned anything from Lost Desert, it’s that if your team plays hard enough, they can do it. Mystery Island does have a chance, and if they do pull off a win, it would prove that they’re not just a 6th place repeat team.
Shenkuu will once again be proving themselves as they play against Kreludor. Kreludor has been putting up some strong wins, including a draw against Mystery Island and Meridell in yooyuball. It may look a bit like the Meridell v. Shenkuu game, but Kreludor appears to actually be a slightly better team than Meridell despite what the standings indicate. For instance, Kreludor was able to sweep Maraqua, while Meridell could only get a draw. It’ll certainly be an interesting game, and may just end up being a draw in yooyuball.
The standings would indicate that Haunted Woods v. Meridell would be a good close game. But in reality, I would be very surprised if Meridell even got a draw in yooyuball against Haunted Woods. But I’ll allow you to rub it in my face if I’m wrong 😛
Darigan v. Maraqua may end up being an even better game than the Haunted Woods one. Maraqua and Darigan are just about neck and neck in the current standings. However, in my opinion Darigan still has the upper hand here despite their shoddy performance. If you look back, Maraqua was unable to even get a draw in against Kreludor. Kreludor was a team that yesterday got a triple draw against Darigan. Maraqua has simply had a fairly easy shedule, and the top teams they have played, they’ve lost to.
*As a footnote, you may want to watch out for Tyrannia getting a potential win/draw in Slushie Slinger against Lost Desert.

What are your reactions to todays results and match-ups? Let everybody know by posting a comment 🙂

Day #9: Recap, Predictions, and Overview

Recap: Just how bad is Darigan this year? That’s what I and many other neopians are now asking after their recent loss to Mystery Island. Not to mention their loss to Meridell or Roo Island. Actually, who has Darigan Citadel beaten this year? Tyrannia is the best team they’ve beaten, and even that wasn’t a clean sweep. It’s starting to look like Darigan may fall harder than Haunted Woods did. In Shenkuu news, Shenkuu got their first sweep against Terror Mountain. Tyrannia also got their first sweep against a shabby looking Brightvale team. Another big story was Roo Island not sweeping Haunted Woods. In fact they only got a win in yooyuball. But of course Haunted Woods is looking pretty strong this year so it’s not that big of a surprise. Also, how good is Meridell this year? They’re currently in the top 4, but it’s looking more and more like they’re just a mid-level team who got an easy schedule. It looked as if Meridell might be a good team when they beat Darigan, but as it’s turning out it seems Darigan is not a top team at all. In their game against Maraqua yesterday they drawed in yooyuball and Make Some Noise, and got a win in Slushie Slinger. A win, but not a pretty win. If you look back you’ll see that Meridell really hasn’t been able to beat any top teams. They were unable to even pull off a win against Kreludor on day 1, which leads me to believe that Meridell is an 8th place team, disguised as a 4th place team. We’ll keep our eye on how it ends up panning out.

Standings:
Not much changing as far as standings go. Darigan will move down once again and as a result Maraqua will be propped up a position. After Haunted Wood’s yoyuball loss they’re no longer tied with Meridell for 4th, but rather back down to 5th place. Here are the standings after the results today:
1. Krawk Island
2. Lost Desert
3. Roo Island
4. Meridell
5. Haunted Woods
6. Mystery Island
7. Kreludor
8. Maraqua
9. Darigan
10. Shenkuu
11. Tyrannia
12. Terror Mountain
13. Virtupets
14. Altador
15. Brightvale
16. Faerieland

Predictions:
Lost Desert over Mystery Island
Tyrannia over Faerieland
Maraqua over Brightvale
Shenkuu over Meridell
Krawk Island over Haunted Woods
Kreludor over Darigan
Roo Island over Terror Mountain
Virtupets over Altador
Current Record (Right-Wrong-Tied): 50-4-10

Overview:
There are several big games today, one of which is Darigan v. Kreludor. At the beginning of the season you wouldn’t of expected this to be a big game, but as it turns out it will be very important in figuring out how good/bad Darigan is this year. I anticipate this turning out very similar to the Meridell v. Darigan game. I actually like Kreludor’s chances to win even more than Darigan’s chances, although I believe this game will most likely end up being a draw. Another big game out there is Lost Desert v. Mystery Island. Lost Desert has been exceeding expectations this year, while Mystery Island is once again stuck in their 6th place rut. A Mystery Island win, or even a draw, could give them the much needed boost they need, but at the rate Lost Desert is going, that may be very difficult to pull off. Meridell v. Shenkuu should also be a great game. Will Shenkuu prove that they’ve still got a chance this year? Will Meridell be able to prove that they’re actually a top team this year? And lastly the fourth big game is Haunted Woods v. Krawk Island. Haunted Woods has been having a great comeback season this year and it’s looking a lot like they’ll be in the top 4 at the end of the season. Yesterday they lost to Roo Island in Yooyuball, but they won the war of the mini-games. Will Haunted Woods be the first team to put a stop to Krawk Island’s constant yooyuball wins?

Also, congratulations to everybody for making it 1/4 of the way through the Altador Cup. Keep on playing everybody! Feel free to leave your comments.
