Podcast Number 3: Team Moltara

Recorded 8/2/11. With your hosts Tails and Gin

Featuring overview of Neopian news, and analysis of Team Moltara.

Music used are ocremixes of Sonic the Hedgehog soundtracks.

Why do you think Moltara did so poorly last year?

I personally believed that Moltara preformed poorly because we had too much press exposure. That Altador Cup ad that kept on playing on Nickelodeon made Moltara look like one of the better teams to join. Then there was also all that buzz when I discovered the Team Moltara background, and then all the swf’s that followed it. Then there was also that our team looks a bit epic. And not to mention that Moltara was the center of the Atlas of the Ancients plot, the most recent plot at that time. All this probably exposed way too many freeloaders to our team, and most likely contributed to our poor year. (This is most likely the case, because Moltara only started to draw/win during the end of the Cup, and by that time most of the “loyal” players have given up.)

Do you think Snow Yooyus are the reason your team did so poorly?

Snow Yooyus melt in contact with the magma/fire pets on our team, so we usually let Vere deal with those. She handles them like any other player would.Snow Yooyus made us do worse, but it’s not the reason why we did poorly.

Do you think they will improve this year?
Yes, but not by much. When your team comes in 18th place, they can’t exactly get in the Top 3 the next year. Freeloaders will (Hopefully) not bother that much with our team, and we at least stay out of last. 14th or 15th may be the highest we go.

What is the dynamic like on the Moltara boards?
The Moltara board (aka GEARS) is very fun and random, probably like all those other AC boards out there. The topics are always different. but a lot of times the things that come up are Warriors, Warriors RP, Glee, Mario (Plus other video games) , internet videos, and anything big in Neopets news.

How many chat groups are there?
There is currently only 1 (GEARS) , but there used to be at least 4 before the AC started. They were known as STEAM (My group, founded by someone else) , MAGMA, MGMA, and STOMP. I was getting worried that people would want to join Moltara, but have absolutely no idea what group to join. I was also afraid that the 4 groups would start fights and needless drama on who’s “Official”, the most “Popular”, etc. So me and the leader of MGMA formed an alliance (GEARS) , and we eventually got all the Moltara chat groups to join in.

Is there competition or drama between them?
There wasn’t really any drama between the first 4, but the alliance was formed to prevent that. I remember GEARS had drama problems with Lost Desert during the AC, but that’s seemed to have died down. Other than that, GEARS doesn’t seem to have that much drama from other teams currently.

On the days that Moltara had to verse Lost Desert, we would always find these boards made by Lost Desert trolls telling us to give up and go home, quit the ac, don’t play today cause they’ll win anyway, vacation day for them, etc. Now, I know this only was made by a few LDers, but this got my team very angry (Including me) , and we spent half the day arguing that we were playing our hardest. Then we would also see that LD was posting stuff like “We’re versing Moltara? ALL TOO EASY :D” or “MOLTARA?!?!? Yay I don’t have to play today!” or “Moltara? *lol* VACATION DAY EVERYBODY!” . Honestly, it was just too much. Maybe 1 troll would have been ok-ish, but we experienced problems with half of the LD chatters. And I would also be getting hate mail (As leader) from the other teams. :K

And then during the 2nd time of versing LD, our team was already worn out by all our hard losses. Then when the trolling started that very day, I think our team just exploded. We got into WAY too much drama than needed, and we ended up having some of our own players spying on LD’s chatboards in revenge (Not posting names) . It was just way too much. I think we must’ve experienced more drama those 2 days than any other player has experienced in their whole lives.

Do you think moltara is a united team?
I think it’s pretty united. There were times where some of us quit or totally blew up at our teammates, but you have to remember that Moltara was predicted to get in the top 3 or even win. When we ended up getting 18th place, there were not only our own players quitting, but other people from other teams telling us to just give up and quit. We were all greatly disappointed with results, but we never all just gave up, disbanded, and quit Neopets. So yeah, it’s pretty united.

What would you say is Moltara’s strongest game
Make Some Noise. It’s one of the only games we’d actually win, and our teammates always enjoyed that game.

What was your biggest accomplishment last year as a team?
No doubt it was during the 1st day of the finals, when we managed our first win. We were all like “Wait, we WON?” , and we were all celebrating and were very motivated by that win.

Who is your favorite player (character) on the team?
My favorite player is Mor Gollog. He has his own nickname, though, and is more commonly referred to as ‘Abs’ on our boards. He is also associated with Taylor Lautner sometimes. 😉

What teams are your biggest competition?
The “Underdogs”, because they’re the only teams that we have a chance of winning against. If we’re versing Lost Desert of Darigan Citadel, we’re all just like “Bleh we aren’t gonna win but we might as well play”. If we’re versing a team like Faerieland or Altador however (No offense to either teams) , we’re all like “Ok so let’s all play our hardest and try to pull a win! YEAH! /mash mash keyboard” . So yeah, all the teams considered “Underdogs” are our biggest competition.

What is your strategy against a big team?
I’m not telling you! All I’m saying is that it’s a good strategy, and it’s the reason Team Moltara sometimes pulled surprise wins/draws against the bigger teams 😀 Nice try though.

A smaller team?
Again, I’m not telling.

What is the team’s biggest strength/weakness?
Our strength and weakness are the same; Trolls. When we see someone post that Moltara should give up and go home, We all get pretty mad about that and accidently start some drama or something. But after all the drama wears off, then we’re all like “We’ll show that Troll that we’re an amazing team!”, and we end up playing harder.

What is the team’s motivation to play?
Usually trolls, or realizing we actually have a chance to win against the other team. If it’s not either of those 2 reasons, it’s because we want to get All-Star.

How did you deal with losses?
It’s usually not that bad. The first day of the AC, though, it was total chaos. When we found out we were swept by Altador, you have NO idea how many trolls we experienced from not only other teams, but our OWN team as well. After a few days of complete losses, we finally got over the fact that we’re gonna get 18th and just continued to play without complaining. On all the other days of losses, it was kinda like “Oh we lost. Ok then. LETS PLAY OUR HARDEST TODAY /mash mash keyboard”

Why did you join Moltara?
I… honestly don’t know why I joined Moltara. One day I just did. I then chose to stay with Moltara, mainly because I was the leader of STEAM.

Why should people join Moltara?
People should join Moltara because we’re a really fun team. We’ve got loyal members, and epic team players (The ones created by Neopets) . Also, being on Team Moltara has taught me that you don’t have to win (Or place anywhere in the 1st-3rd tier) to have a great year in the Altador Cup. This lesson was also taught to most of our teammates that stuck with us till the end, and you will also learn this reason if you join. So join today!

If you join Team Moltara in the next 15 minutes, you’ll have the option of displaying this ABS Bobblehead on your lookup!

Offseason News: Best Site Event

Once again, the efforts of Altador Cup lovers were thwarted in the third Annual Neopies as the AC finished an unfortunate 3rd place with 26% of the vote for best site event. Although unfortunate, this is a solid result for our beloved event. The Daily Dare finished in 2nd with 27% but was aided by the fact that no other general gaming events were in the competition. As a result, this was the DD’s best ever finish at the Neopies both in popular result and placing. The quests of the Negg Festival, which subsequently won with 40% of the vote, gave Neopians the plot like experience they had been longing for especially after the game & click plot, Atlas of the Ancients. With a weak site event like Save the Wheels rounding out the final four, the Altador Cup managed a decent showing.

Previous Results: It had managed 29% in the first Annual Neopies and was noticeably snubbed in the second.

For each of the Annual Neopies, the best site event has been a relatively short one, the Games Master Challenge won with 36% of the vote in the first Annual Neopies. The following year, the GMC would plummet to 4th place as Neopet’s Tenth Birthday became the best site event with 48% crushing the three game-oriented site events. With the Negg Festival winning this year, should TNT consider making the Altador Cup shorter?
